Hiking in Maine

The Appalachian Trail ends in Maine, at Mt. Katadin, in Baxter State Park to be exact. The good news is, you don’t have to hike the whole trail. You can jump on the Appalachian trail from a variety of trailheads in Maine. One of my favorites is just down the road from Sugarloaf Mountain.

The good news is that Maine has thousands of much less aggressive day hikes and walking trails, and are often quietly hidden in local town trail systems (Rattlesnake Mountain in Raymond, for example) to popular state park trails (the easy ones at Bradbury Mountain State park and Wolfes Neck).

There’s also numerous opportunities to take an overnight backpacking hike on many hiking trails in Maine.
