Made in Maine

Surely you’ve heard of LL Bean -after all, they are the most famous Maine company…but there’s also many others making a variety of quality products- everything from natural toothpaste to shoes, clothing and accessories, gourmet foods to luxury home goods.

Here are a few of my favorite things (still) made in Maine, or at least developed by and available from Maine based companies.

  • LL Bean Lobster Flip Flops, every summer, I get a new pair.
  • Specialty Foods – Stonewall Kitchen – gourmet Maine Blueberry jams, dressings, marinades & more.
  • Tom’s of Maine toothpaste, deodorants, other natural health & beauty products. Natural foods stores often carry Tom’s of Maine, but if you don’t live near one, you can always order your favorite
    Tom’s of Maine soaps
one by one or in bulk online at MotherNature.com.
  • Eastland Shoes- the classic boat shoe! But now, they make additional styles of casual shoes for men & women.
  • Angela Adams home decor – designer has a great boutique in the Old Port, and she also has a large collection of designer home decor available through Macy’s, see these examples of Angela Adams Bedding and Angela Adams “Lulu” Area rugs.
  • Cole Haan Shoes – this Yarmouth Maine based company has stylishly gone from good value to great comfy with Nike Air tech in high heels!
  • Old Town Canoes & Kayaks!  – paddle the best boats, like this classic:
    Old Town Penobscot 16 Canoe
  • Cuddledown – luxurious bed linens

Hi Larry!

It is harder to find a “maine shoe” company that is still making their shoes in the state of maine, not in china, these days – but it is still possible –

So, are the Orvis ones just more than you want to spend? those are pretty pricey, but at least they are handsewn in maine.

I belive Allen-Edmonds still makes the
Eastport
in Maine (available for $175 at zappos) but doesn’t have the vibram sole – but it is slip resistant, and they will “recraft” AE shoes at anytime, should yours wear out.

about 90% of
Sebago Shoes
are still made in maine; zappos also has a variety of them to choose from, but again, not the vibram brand sole.

there are the made to order http://www.quoddy.com shoes -
